|IDENTITY THEFT: KNOWING THE LAW - PROTECTING YOUR
The federal government reports that identity theft is now the
fastest-growing financial crime. Nearly 10 million Americans were
victimized in 2003, resulting in $5 billion in individual losses and
$45 billion in corporate and banking losses.
Speaker Aurora Fagan, Deputy Attorney General for NJ, will
address the topic, including the Identity Theft Prevention Act, which
took effect on January 1, 2006. Panelists include Scott S. Christie,
Partner, McCarter & English (former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the
District of NJ heading the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property
Section) and James Doyle, Director of Professional Services at
Guidance Software (retired Executive Officer of the NYPD Computer
Investigations and Technology Unit).
