Local Mayors Deliver
Area Mayors Participate in National Mayors for Meals Day

PRINCETON, NJ, March 22, 2006 – Hundreds of mayors
throughout the country helped deliver meals today to older adults and
those homebound who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. Through
their participation in Mayors For Meals Day, the mayors aimed to raise
awareness about senior hunger and showed their support for the senior
nutrition programs that deliver these meals daily.
Here, in the Mercer County area, four mayors and one deputy mayor helped
deliver warm meals to clients of the American Red Cross of Central New
Jersey's Home Delivered Meals Program. Participating mayors included
Janice Mironov of East Windsor; Shing-Fu Hsueh of West Windsor; Phyllis
Marchand of Princeton Township; Glen Gilmore of Hamilton Township; and
Deputy Mayor Neil Lewis of Plainsboro.
“We appreciate the mayors taking time to draw attention to the need for
these services in our community,” said Sharon Hurley, community services
director with the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey. “Many of our

daily visits from our caring volunteers to bring them a warm meal and a

Program delivered 47,756 meals throughout the Mercer County area last
year with the help of 235 dedicated Red Cross volunteers. For additional

Mayors For Meals Day is a component of March For Meals, a national
campaign by the Meals on Wheels Association of America. The American Red
Cross of Central New Jersey is a participant in this national campaign.
