Shelters Opened as Massive Spring Flooding Strikes Three States
PRINCETON, NJ, April 4, 2005 – The American Red Cross offered protection from rising waters this past weekend, opening almost 50 shelters in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as extensive flooding forced many people from their homes. Here in Central New Jersey, more than 544 homes were evacuated in Mercer and Hunterdon counties alone, affecting over 2,000 individuals. The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey, the chapter serving Mercer, Hunterdon and Middlesex counties, has the following shelters open:
The American Red Cross will continue to provide vital
disaster response assistance for all who need it. The Red Cross will be in
the affected areas to assess damage, provide clean-up kits, and to
interview families/individuals regarding disaster-caused needs. Together, we can save a life
