PRINCETON, NJ, April 27, 2006 – The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey’s 2006 Car Raffle is underway. With ticket sales capped at 2,500, this year’s Red Cross Car Raffle has the potential to raise $250,000 for programs and services provided by the chapter locally, including disaster response, meals delivered to the elderly and homebound, emergency preparedness, and health and safety training to inner city youth.

Princeton, NJ – Last year’s Red Cross Car Raffle winners, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Townsend of Princeton, proudly display their 2005 Volvo XC70. “We’re enjoying our Volvo,” said Charles Townsend adding, “It’s a great car and a great cause.” The 2005 Red Cross Car Raffle raised $100,000 for programs and services of the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey.

This year’s car is a Passion Red 2006 Volvo C70, a sporty coupe with a three-piece retractable hardtop that turns into a stylish convertible in less than 30 seconds. The Volvo C70 was generously donated by Long Motor Company and Volvo Cars of North America.

Each $100 raffle ticket sold can help comfort a family of three with one night’s lodging and food after they’ve lost everything in a house fire, assure five senior citizens receive a daily hot meal for one week, or provide five hundred and forty members of our community with information about disaster preparedness.

One program the Red Cross of Central New Jersey hopes to expand is the School Safety Initiative, which brings First Aid and CPR courses to teachers and students in inner cities. During the 2004-2005 school year, the School Safety Initiative helped introduce Red Cross training and basic safety procedures into the lives of over 6,800 school children in Trenton. The Red Cross hoping to raise funds needed to expand the School Safety Initiative into other school districts in central New Jersey.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.njredcross.org or by calling 609-951-8550. The drawing will be held June 5th, 2006.
