Red Cross Car Raffle Raises $181,000

PRINCETON, NJ, June 15, 2006 – The American Red Cross of Central
New Jersey’s 2006 Car Raffle raised over $181,000 for local programs and
services. These services include disaster response, meals delivered to
the elderly and homebound, providing a safe supply of blood to area
hospitals, emergency preparedness education, and lifesaving health and
The Car Raffle concluded with the drawing of ticket #1382 on June 5th.
The lucky winner, Joe Villa of Brooklyn, New York, was sold the winning
ticket by Red Cross staffer Kathleen Foley. Mr. Villa will receive a
brand new Passion Red 2006 Volvo C70, generously donated to the Red
Cross chapter by Volvo Cars of North America and Long Motor Company.
“Both Volvo Cars’ and the American Red Cross’ strong commitment to
safety made this partnership a win-win in our eyes,” said Tassos Panas,
vice president, Volvo Cars, Northeast Region. “Our donation not only had
one lucky family win an all new C70, but also helped this Red Cross
chapter raise the funds needed to help spread lifesaving training
throughout their community with programs like the School Safety
The School Safety Initiative brings Red Cross First Aid and CPR courses
to teachers and students in inner cities. Championed by David Long of
Long Motor Company, the School Safety Initiative helped introduce Red
Cross training and basic safety procedures into the lives
of more than 6,800 school children in Trenton during the 2004-2005
school year. The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey plans to bring
this highly successful safety program into schools in New Brunswick.
