School Safety Initiative Celebrates Bringing Red Cross Health &
Safety Programs to
More Than 12,200 Trenton Students During Two Year Program

Princeton, NJ, June 19, 2006 – The American Red Cross of Central
New Jersey will present certifications to teachers and recognize
students of the Trenton School District tomorrow who have completed
their Red Cross CPR and First Aid training as part of the Trenton School
Safety Initiative. The Red Cross will also honor those who’ve gone above
and beyond -- one who worked diligently to increase the amount of
students reached through the initiative and one who showed a great deal
of spirit in learning the skills and helped others learn as well.
Five time All Pro NFL Cornerback and Trenton native, Troy Vincent, will
be a special guest during tomorrow’s assembly. Mr. Vincent, founder of
Love Thy Neighbor Community Development and Opportunity Corporation, is
a partner in the School Safety Initiative and has helped the local Red
Cross encourage student participation in the initiative. Other partners
include the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers, who, with area
car dealerships, helped fund the program through the Charles E. Walton

The School Safety Initiative instructs eleventh graders in Red Cross
Community First Aid and Safety courses (which include CPR/AED
training), and brings Red Cross Basic Aid Training to students
from third to fifth grade, and Red Cross First Aid for Children Today
to younger students. The School Safety Initiative has introduced Red
Cross training and basic safety procedures into the lives of 12,253
Trenton children since its April, 2004 launch.
The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey is a
non-governmental agency that serves the people of Mercer, Middlesex,
Hunterdon, and parts of Somerset counties. Led by volunteers, the Red
