PRINCETON, NJ – July 19, 2005 – The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey is getting assistance from Job Corps with the relief effort to Middlesex County flood victims. Edison Job Corps Academy Red Cross Club members will be joining other Red Cross volunteers distributing Clean-Up Kits in the affected areas.

In 2001, the American Red Cross and Job Corps signed a national partnership and the two have worked together since then with Job Corps helping to provide manpower to the Red Cross during both local and national disasters.

Last year, 10 of the Club’s students and their supervisor assisted in the Red Cross relief efforts in Florida following the series of hurricanes that struck the state.

“We’re pleased by Job Corps’ willingness to participate in our relief effort,” said Kevin Sullivan, chief executive officer for the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey. “They stepped right up to the plate when asked to assist these Middlesex County residents.”

The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey is providing assistance to residents of Jamesburg, Helmetta, Spotswood and South River that were flooded late Sunday evening due to heavy rains.

Flood victims who need assistance to meet immediate, emergency, disaster-caused needs may call:

1-866-GET INFO
(1-866-438-4636)
(TTD 1-800-526-1417)

This Red Cross hotline is a free call and is available 24 hours a day. People may call this number to request assistance, receive information, or make a donation.

All American Red Cross disaster relief is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. You can help the victims of this flood and thousands of other disasters across the country each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need. Call 1-800-HELP-NOW or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish). Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may also be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013. Internet users can make a secure online credit card contribution by visiting www.redcross.org.

The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey serves Middlesex, Mercer and Hunterdon counties.

As a national, primarily residential training program, Job Corps' mission is to attract eligible young adults, teach them the skills they need to become employable and independent, and place them in meaningful jobs or further education.
