Princeton, NJ – December 16, 2004 – ‘Tis the season of giving, and the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey wants to help ensure that those most in need are remembered by delivering wrapped gifts to local elderly residents and children of families struck by disaster.

This Saturday, December 18th, the 7th annual Red Cross Santa Run takes place, with the big man himself visiting the homes of 30 families in Mercer and Middlesex counties that were severely affected by household fires or flooding in the past six months. Each of the 95 children will receive gifts donated by Red Cross Emergency Services volunteers, school children from the Princeton Montessori School, and employees of Factiva, a Dow Jones and Reuters Company. The volunteers aim to bring a bit of joy and hope to these families, while letting them know the Red Cross is always there.

Another tradition continues with Red Cross Elderly Services delivering gifts to Meals on Wheels and Meals at Home clients. Volunteers will present gifts to nearly 160 homebound and elderly clients in Mercer County along with their scheduled meal deliveries. Many gifts were donated by longtime project participant American Re-Insurance in Plainsboro, whose employees personally purchase gifts for individual homebound clients. Gifts were also donated by the Princeton and East Brunswick Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and holiday floral arrangements were donated for Meals clients by the Princeton Garden Club.

Red Cross Youth Services volunteers, representing schools throughout central New Jersey, have been busy providing most of the gift wrapping for the Red Cross holiday projects.

“This season is a time to give to those you love and to those less fortunate. We are very grateful to our Red Cross volunteers for all their efforts to make the holidays a little brighter for our community,” says Kevin Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross of Central New Jersey.

All American Red Cross assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. You can help too – Make a monetary donation, volunteer your time, donate blood, and/or take a CPR course.
